The result of a “bad marriage” between provocateur Ken Russell and Oscar-winning screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky, this gimmicky, intelligent, and chaotic psychedelic sci-fi horror centers on one scientist’s unrelenting pursuit of an existential, primordial truth.
One of Russell’s top-tier films, this sensual adaptation of D.H. Lawrence’s novel takes both lofty and earthy notions of ‘love’ into an ever-deepening spiral of psychosexual complications and provocations.
This underappreciated debut feature by Ken Russell is a refreshing and energetic French New Wave-influenced comedy bursting with ideas and saying a thing or two about breaking conservative moral codes.
